Blue Shield applies a thin cement-based layer over your slab, then stamps, stains or textures it into wood plank, travertine, slate, brick, flagstone, tile or custom patterns. What Is Decorative Concrete?
A decorative concrete overlay is a thin, cement-based material applied directly over your existing concrete slab.
Once it’s down, it’s stamped, textured, stained or scored into patterns that replicate natural materials – stone, hardwood, brick, tile and more.
Unlike tile or hardwood installation, there’s no tearing out the existing slab. The overlay goes on top, which saves time, money and the mess of concrete removal. It’s also more affordable than installing the materials it replicates, making it a great option for pool decks, large patios and interior slabs that are difficult or expensive to replace.
Most projects take two to three days depending on design complexity. This is our premium service, and the result reflects that investment.

Our Process - What Happens from First Call to Finished Floor
*Structural concrete damage cannot be corrected by an overlay, and the warranty does not cover pre-existing cracking.
Step 1
Design consultation – we assess your concrete, discuss pattern and color options and provide an exact quote. We identify any concerns upfront.
Step 2
UNITS storage pod delivered – about two days before your install date (free for qualifying projects*). Load your garage at your pace.
Step 3
Surface preparation – the concrete is thoroughly cleaned and any loose material or old coatings are removed.
Step 4
Crack filling – visible cracks are filled and leveled.*
Step 5
Overlay application – the cement-based overlay material is applied over the prepared surface.
Step 6
Stamping, scoring or texturing – the chosen pattern is pressed, scored or textured into the surface while the overlay is workable.
Step 7
Staining and color application – acid stains, water-based stains or color hardeners are applied to achieve the chosen color profile.
Step 8
Sealing – a protective sealer locks in the color and pattern and protects the surface from weather, moisture and daily use.
Step 9
Cure time – most projects require 24–48 hours before light foot traffic and 72 hours before furniture or vehicle use. Don’t worry – we’ll provide specific care instructions before we leave.
